SYNOPSIS

A wedding in Vegas should be a dream, but for this group, it’s quickly turning into a whirlwind of complications. From florist mishaps to untold secrets bubbling to the surface, nothing about this weekend is going as planned.
As emotions run high and unexpected challenges arise, bonds are tested, and relationships are pushed to their limits. Can they overcome the chaos, or will the glittering city of sin leave cracks in their carefully crafted lives?

CHAPTER ONE LOOK INSIDE

Chapter One – Spencer

“I don’t care what the studio says. You are going to approve this clause and sign the contract, or I’m pulling my client from the project.”

I bit back a smile at my wife’s ability to get to the heart of a negotiation. Up and down the aisle, she walked, speaking through the microphone in her AirPods and cracking her knuckles. The sound made me wince, but I knew better than to ask her to stop, especially when she was fired up.

There wasn’t much that fired her up worse than getting the feeling someone was trying to railroad her. Whoever they were, they were braver than I. Nobody pulled the wool over her eyes and got away with it. Generally, they regretted trying it in the first place.

“Oh? You’re worried about a schedule? That’s nice. I’m worried about my client’s safety and peace of mind while working on this movie. But it must be nice, having nothing more to worry about than a calendar.” She caught my eye after passing my seat and turning on her heel. The fire blazing away in those beautiful, green orbs was enough to make my dick twitch. “Once this project is wrapped, you’ll move on to the next one, while my client will have to live with the memories. If you cannot guarantee her safety and comfort during filming… especially when it comes to intimate scenes… then we have no deal. Find yourself another beautiful blonde for your promotional materials.”

I wasn’t sure what I enjoyed more. Listening to my wife obliterate the poor son of a bitch on the other end of the call or watching her hips sway with every step she took. She understood too well how treacherous Hollywood could be for the ingenues it drew to it like flies to honey. Girls with dreams that were too often crushed. Rowan’s linen jumpsuit might as well have been armor. I couldn’t have loved her more.

“Yes, you take that to the studio heads. Let them know they can reach out directly to me if they have anything else to say.” One of the flight attendants poked her head into the cabin, wearing a professional smile. Rowan nodded in understanding before wrapping the call.
“I have to get ready to land. We are scheduled to be in Las Vegas from now through Monday for a wedding. But I’ll get word from my assistant,” she concluded, then said goodbye, releasing a heavy sigh.

I watched the tension drain from her, witnessed her muscles loosening. “I swear, I don’t understand people,” she declared in a softer voice than the one that had filled the cabin moments ago. “What is so unthinkable about adding a clause ensuring an actress is entitled to call out harassment on-set without her job being in jeopardy? It’s like these assholes go into this line of work planning on being lecherous creeps.”

“That sounds about right.” Once she dropped into the seat beside mine, I covered her knee with my hand. “You gave him hell. I’m proud of you.”

“Somebody has to do it.” Her weary smile was slow to appear. She blew out a sigh, sinking back against the supple leather and closing her eyes. “I’m wiped out.”
Not the first time I’d heard that lately. “You need a break. This wedding couldn’t have come at a better time.” For both of us. It provided an excuse to unplug for a few days and catch up with friends while Hannah stayed with Rowan’s parents at our home in LA. A Vegas weekend hadn’t seemed appropriate for a thirteen-year-old, but then, she was interested in little more than hanging out with her friends nowadays, anyway.

If she was lucky, those friends would be part of the tapestry of her life for years to come. They would grow together the way I’d grown alongside my friends. Fate had taken us down different paths—new relationships, families, all of the responsibilities involved. Between Hannah’s activities and my own hectic schedule, there were days I could barely remember having the freedom of an impromptu night out with the guys.

All things considered, I wouldn’t trade a minute of what life had become. They were men in my position who were all too happy letting staff take care of their kids. From the beginning, Rowan and I had seen eye to eye on our level of involvement in Hannah’s life. It took a little juggling, some rather intense schedule coordination at times, but we made it work.

Rowan read my thoughts. No surprise there. “I hope Hannah is okay.”

“We left her three hours ago,” I reminded Rowan while buckling my belt for landing. “And this isn’t the first long weekend she’s spent with your mom and dad. They’ll have a great time.”

“She’s so independent now.” Rowan’s breathing hitched a little. “She won’t miss us.”

This was becoming a familiar refrain. “If she’s independent, she gets it from you,” I pointed out gently. “Along with that gorgeous blonde hair and those brains. Independence means she feels confident and secure. She knows she has a soft place to land if life gets too hard. You’re the reason for that.”

I couldn’t take credit. Hannah was ten years old when I entered her life after spending a decade being unaware of her existence. Looking back, I could hardly remember a time when she wasn’t the center of my world, along with her mother.

“Thank you.” Rowan leaned in for a soft, lingering kiss that ended left a growl stirring in my throat. “Down, boy,” she giggled, stroking my cheek, then letting her hand trail down my chest. The woman had no idea what she did to me, sending bolts of electricity sizzling through my torso before heading south.

“How can you expect me to contain myself after watching you kick so much ass?” Taking her hand in mine, I lowered it until she palmed my very obvious bulge. “You know what it does to me.”

“And you know we’re about ten minutes from landing,” she chided, though I wasn’t fooled. Her wicked grin told me our thoughts traveled in the same direction.

Until her soft, rather pitiful groan left me slamming my foot on the brakes. Not a sexy, I-wish-you-would-take-me-here-and-now sort of groan, either. The kind that normally preceded a puke fest, as Hannah so charmingly put it once.

“I’m fine,” she quickly assured me before I had the chance to ask what it was about. “A little queasy. I should’ve eaten more for breakfast.”

That was the thing about her. She worked tirelessly on behalf of her clients, protecting young actresses from industry pitfalls. There were nights I woke up to find her side of the bed empty. She’d be in her study, typing furiously, staring narrow-eyed at her screen. No general in full uniform had ever been more impressive. I couldn’t imagine respecting any of them more than I did her, either. At the same time, she tended to forget her own needs in favor of others.

“When is everyone else getting in?” she asked, resting her head on my shoulder with her eyes closed. The familiar scent of her lilac shampoo was equally comforting and arousing. I couldn’t smell lilacs without thinking of her.

“As far as I know, sometime tonight.” I scrolled through the group chat to catch the latest updates. “It seems like that’s still the case.”

“Good. I could use a little downtime before meeting up with them. My social meter isn’t super full at the moment.” She barely stifled a yawn as she glanced guiltily at me. “I might have gotten up last night and gone back to work for a few hours.”

“I’m completely shocked,” I deadpanned. “You always shuffle around like a zombie looking for brains to munch on.”

“Keep that up, and I won’t be munching or doing anything with my mouth for this entire trip,” she retorted.
The thought made me recoil in horror that wasn’t completely faked. “Sorry, sorry, I take it back.”

She laughed softly before sighing and resting her head again. “I’ll catch up on sleep this weekend.”

“You know what you need? An afternoon at the spa. I can book one for you right now.” Seeing her like this tore at my chest, where my heart ached at the sound and sight of her fatigue. She had been burning the candle at both ends for months, something every successful business person dealt with if they were lucky. Word traveled fast in a town like Hollywood, and Rowan had developed a reputation for her no-nonsense manner. Starlets flocked to her, while studios kept her firm on retainer to make sure their asses were covered and everybody was happy, productive, and not being exploited. She took her work seriously, and it was paying off. But at what expense?
“If anything, I’m looking forward to a nap,” she murmured sleepily as the jet began its descent.

“Oh?” I arched an eyebrow, intrigued. “Tell me more about this nap. Will there be clothes involved? Is it a strictly solo activity, or can other people participate?”
“It doesn’t matter where you are,” my wife announced, shaking her head as her eyes opened to find me grinning down at her. “It takes nothing to get you thinking with your dick.”

“I do my best thinking with my dick,” I reminded her as we shared another lingering kiss that promised alone time this weekend.

Something we both needed.

***

“I remember when a trip to Vegas looked a lot different.” I had been observing our dinner table for many long, silent minutes as everyone talked, laughed, and showed off pictures of their kids over drinks once the plates had been cleared. It seemed like somebody should say out loud what had been running through my mind.

Lex Landry smirked, sitting back and draping an arm around the shoulders of his fiancée, Summer Strawbridge. “Speak for yourself. Some of us don’t have kids weighing us down, remember?’

“Weighing you down? Ouch.” Clay Manning winced, shaking his head, as his wife, Mira, rolled her eyes. “We’ll see if you get a comped suite at one of my hotels ever again.”

“Not that there’s anything wrong with having kids,” Lex quickly insisted as Summer elbowed him.

“Thank you very much for the suite,” she added, smiling at Clay. “And when Lex and I get back up there, I’ll remind him that having kids at home isn’t the only reason for a man to avoid a wild Vegas party. Like having a fiancée, for starters.” She narrowed her eyes, wiggling her left hand and the diamond ring on it, when the rest of us laughed.

“Yeah, I think you told on yourself, bro,” Travis Knight teased.

“And for what it’s worth,” his fiancée, Penny, added. “You can still have plenty of fun once there are kids in the picture. We have two, and it takes creativity, but it works.” No doubt it took a ton of creativity, with Travis constantly jetting back and forth across the country to oversee his shipping business while Penny stayed home with their daughters, Sofia and baby Olive.

“How much did he pay you to say that?” Dante West asked as the entire table burst out laughing again. It was his wedding that had brought us to town this weekend. Now that we had all arrived and settled into our suites in two of the hotels he and Dante had renovated on the strip over the past year, we’d gotten together for a group dinner before the wedding festivities kicked off tomorrow morning. The women planned on doing some shopping and having lunch while I headed out to play a few holes of golf with the guys.

Dante’s friends and investors out here in Vegas would join us. We’d met up a few times, and they were a good group, a lot like ours, but they were still in their single days.

I couldn’t pretend to miss it any more than I could take offense over the way Lex busted our balls. It was something we’d been doing to each other for years for any reason we could find.

“Oh, look.” Rowan’s face glowed when she held out her phone so I could take a look at the pictures Hannah had sent. She and her grandparents had done one of those sightseeing tours, riding around town in an open bus and admiring stars’ homes.

“I can’t believe how big she’s getting,” Penny mused, leaning across the table. “How is it possible she’s a teenager already?”

“Don’t remind me,” Rowan begged with shaky laughter. “I’m pretty sure I found a gray hair this morning.”
“Please.” Mira waved a hand, then tucked her dark curls behind her ears. “You look like you just graduated college yesterday.”

“I’ve always liked you, Mira.” Rowan chuckled, lifting her water glass in Mira’s direction.

Leaning close, I murmured, “Are you feeling all right?” Normally, if she had a headache, she would avoid drinking since it only made things worse.

“Oh, I was afraid wine would make me too sleepy,” she explained. “I didn’t want to fall asleep at the table.”
“I really need to get you back to the suite.” When she arched an eyebrow and pursed her lips in a disapproving expression, I chuckled. “To rest. After all, you didn’t get any when you were taking work calls after we arrived.”
“Says the man who wakes up at five in the morning so he can get a head start on his day,” she countered lovingly.

“You act like I live to work all the time.”

“You’re telling me you don’t?”

She clicked her tongue, shaking her head. “Okay, maybe I do.”

There was a different kind of work on my mind as we went our separate ways once it was clear our group was holding up the restaurant’s closing. Granted, the hotel’s owners were sitting at the table, but that didn’t mean the staff felt like hanging around all night.

I made plans to meet with the guys in the lobby come morning, then held Rowan’s hand on the way to the elevator.

“I absolutely love what they’ve done with this place,” she mused as we strolled down a wide, sleek hall. To our right, one of the hotel’s three lounges pulsed with energy, men and women having drinks, flirting, and dancing.

“The energy is amazing.”

“Want to go in and get a drink? Find a dark corner?” I suggested.

“I doubt there’s such a thing as quiet in there,” she pointed out with a chuckle. “Actually, I was hoping to go upstairs, turn out the lights, and enjoy the view of the strip from our window.”

“Is that all you’re hoping to do when we get up there?” I was tall enough, and her neckline was low-cut enough to make ogling her much too easy. The creamy swells of her tits had inspired my imagination since the moment she zipped into the light, sexy red dress.

She lifted her shoulder, sinking her teeth into her bottom lip. “I don’t know. What did you have in mind?”

I bent down to brush my lips against her ear, enjoying the way she shivered at the touch of my breath on her skin.

“Nothing I can talk about down here. Let’s put it that way.”
